On October 7th, 2007 I will be running in my first marathon in memory of my father, Roger Siske. As you may know, my father
died of a sudden heart attack in January of 2006. And while we are still left with the shock and pain of our loss, I am not
running to remember his death, but to celebrate his life. This race is to honor the life he led and the legacy he left behind.
My family has established a scholarship fund in my dad's name at the University of Michigan Law School. The Roger C. Siske
Scholarship Fund is given to deserving students who would not otherwise be able to afford the opportunity.
My father was so very appreciative of the support he received from the University, and he remained grateful through out
his life. My family is very proud to be able to honor my father through this scholarship. And, as he did in life, my father
will continue to touch all those who knew him.
Those of you who knew my dad understand he was larger than life; he was a giant. You also know what a competitive athlete
he was. I have often been asked why I run; and among the many reasons, I run because it helps me remember him. After I lace
up and sink into the rhythm of my stride and my breath, I feel like I spend those quiet miles with my dad. I am so honored
and proud to run 26.2 miles in memory of him. I so greatly appreciate your support to his fund.
See you at the finish line!
Kimberly Siske
